What is Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism?

The definition of alcohol abuse or alcoholism is that consistent misuse of alcohol. Alcohol abuse disorder is when your/ your loved one's drinking cause harm both physically and emotionally. 

Ok, we all drink alcohol from time to time without thinking much about it. But how much is too much alcohol? According to The Mayo Clinic, you should drink moderately. 

Drinking moderately means one dink a day for women and to drinks a day from men. 

Those who drink more start to become an alcoholic. 

There are a few forms of alcohol abuse. 

One of them is binge drinking. 


If a man drinks five or more standard drinks in two hours, this is considered binge drinking. and a binge drinking for a woman is more than four standard drinks in two hours. 


The other form of alcohol abuse is heavy drinking. It is not as concentrated as binge drinking but spread out over a period of time. 


Alcohol Addiction Symptoms

We have all been there. Admitting you have a problem is not an easy task. Especially admitting that you have alcohol addiction is really difficult and long process. It is like drug addiction. There are a lot of feelings associated with substance abuse. Shame, stigma, guilt are some of those.
